Adani Group-owned Ambuja Cements on Monday (June 22, 2026) announced it has signed an agreement with U.K.’s Leilac Limited to collaborate on a low-carbon cement project in Gujarat’s Kutch district.

The two entities would set up a commercial demonstration project at Ambuja Cements’ Sanghi plant in Kutch district to evaluate if a pathway can be created such that the consumption of coal is reduced to nil whilst alternate fuels are allowed to be used flexibly.

In a statement, Ambuja Cements explained the demonstration project would evaluate “the integration of Leilac’s carbon capture and hybrid electric heating technology to support lower-emission cement production through greater use of renewable electricity and the capture of unavoidable process carbon dioxide”.

If successful, the company stated, the project would be scaled by seven to eight times to capture “more than one million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually”.
