Thalamuthu Nagar police arrested a youth and juvenile after bid to assault police during arrest

Posted on June 18, 2026 By admin

Thalamuthu Nagar police on Thursday arrested a youth and juvenile after they allegedly attempted to attack police and escape during an arrest operation.

According to police, the accused have been identified as M. Karthikeyan, 20 from Siluvaipatti and a 17-year old juvenile from the same area.

Police said that the duo was allegedly involved in hurling a kerosene bomb at a house three days ago in Thalamuthu Nagar police jurisdiction, following which they had been on the run.

Based on the tip-off that the duo was hiding in Thoothukudi North Police Station limits, a special team from Thalamuthu Nagar police, led by Sub inspector Manikkaraj, 38 conducted a search operation in the area.

When the police spotted them, the duo attempted to escape. While trying to apprehend them, the accused allegedly attempted to attack the police personnel with a sickle, but the officials managed to avoid the assault.

However Karthikeyan was subsequently arrested, while the juvenile was apprehended.

During the attempt to flee, both accused reportedly jumped from a roadside bridge. Karthikeyan suffered a fracture in his right leg, while the juvenile sustained fracture in his right hand.

Both the accused were admitted at Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

Further investigations are on.
