MSC Maratha Royals takes on ARCS Andheri for title

One side has mastered the art of surviving with its back against the wall. The other has reinvented itself from the tournament’s wooden-spoon holder into its most consistent outfit. On Saturday night at the Wankhede Stadium, defending champion MSC Maratha Royals and ARCS Andheri will clash in the T20 Mumbai Season 4 final, each carrying contrasting narratives but identical ambitions.

For Siddhesh Lad-led Royals, adversity has almost become a habit. After sneaking into the knockouts as the fourth-placed side before lifting the trophy in 2025, the Royals found itself in familiar territory this season.

Entering their final league fixture against ARCS Andheri needing a victory to stay alive, it responded under pressure. Chasing 169 against an Andheri side that had rested captain Shivam Dube, Royals rode on Ayaz Khan’s brilliance to squeeze through to the semifinals before edging past North Mumbai Panthers in a tense last-four encounter.

ARCS Andheri, meanwhile, have scripted one of the tournament’s most dramatic turnarounds. Having finished at the bottom of the standings last season, Dube has inspired a remarkable revival, both through his performances and leadership. Qualifying for the semifinals with a game to spare, Andheri further underlined its credentials by controlling the semifinal against Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs from start to finish.

The final, however, often has little regard for momentum. The pressure of a packed Wankhede and the weight of occasion could prove decisive.

Royals’ hopes will once again rest heavily on Tushar Deshpande, whose evolution into a genuine all-round force has been one of the stories of the tournament. If Dube produced a finisher’s masterclass in the semifinal, Deshpande turned the tide with the ball, claiming four crucial wickets at the death after having already excelled with the bat throughout the league phase.

Alongside him, off-spinning all-rounder Maxwell Swaminathan has emerged as a vital cog, while Chinmay Sutar — the Player of the Match in the 2025 final — rediscovered his touch with a pressure-soaked semifinal fifty.

Dube, on the other hand, will hope for substantial contributions from fellow all-rounders Musheer Khan and Arjun Tendulkar. The wild card could well be mystery spinner Ashutosh Ghagre, a conventional off-spinner capable of delivering carrom balls, leg-breaks and googlies, whose variations proved decisive in the semifinal.

One team is chasing history through a successful title defence. The other seeks redemption after last year’s disappointment. By Saturday night, Wankhede will crown either resilience or resurgence.

On Saturday afternoon, SoBo Mumbai Falcons will face Aakash Tigers MWS in the inaugural final of the Women’s T20 Mumbai League.
