State-owned Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) announced Kumar Shanker’s appointment as the Managing Director of the North India’s largest city-gas distributor, succeeding Kamal Kishore Chatiwal, who shall be repatriated back to parent Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) following a three-year stint at the company.
Prior to joining IGL, Mr. Shanker served at the Managing Director of Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL) which too is a joint venture between GAIL and Bharat Petroleum Corp with equity participation from the Maharashtra government.
IGL is a joint venture of GAIL and Bharat Petroleum with the Delhi government holding a 5% equity stake.
In a statement, IGL stated, “Mr Shanker has been actively engaged in several important policy and regulatory changes that have evolved over the past two decades in the Indian natural gas sector,” adding, “He has played an important role in the introduction of Unified Tariff for the National Gas Grid System in the country which is hailed as a noteworthy reform in the natural gas sector in India.”
