DGP for effective use of technological resources and data-driven policing in States

Telangana Director General of Police C. V. Anand said that the State Police department, once regarded as one of the country’s leading forces in adopting technology, has fallen behind in certain areas due to inadequate utilisation of available technological systems and shortcomings in field-level implementation.

Addressing Station House Officers and officers from various police units through a video conference from the DGP Office in Hyderabad on Monday (June 8, 2026) the DGP stressed the need for effective use of existing technological resources and strengthening data-driven policing systems across the State.

He said technology in policing is not limited to developing software applications but depends on their effective use, continuous updating and real-time data management. During the review meeting, discussions focused on digital policing applications, Telangana Cop platforms, technological systems, operational challenges and implementation issues at the field level.

The DGP observed that merely creating technological systems was not sufficient unless they were implemented effectively at the grassroots level. He announced that a dedicated technical team had been constituted within the police department to oversee technological development, implementation, monitoring and resolution of technical issues.

The team, he said, would identify gaps in existing systems and facilitate quicker implementation of solutions. He directed officers to ensure that field-level data was updated in real time and that information available in police databases remained accurate and complete.

Noting that several digital initiatives had already been introduced, the DGP said implementation levels had reached only about 60% and had not met expectations. He instructed officers to make greater use of digital forensics, digital evidence management systems and technology-driven investigative tools to improve both the speed and quality of investigations.

The DGP also directed officials to regularly update records maintained under the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), State Crime Records Bureau databases, NTR photo records and other digital platforms. He said several available applications and modules were not being fully utilised by field officers.

Addressing Station House Officers (SHOs) in particular, he instructed them to ensure timely updating of FIR details, crime records, arrest information, scientific evidence records, charge sheets and other case-related data in departmental systems. Such measures, he said, would significantly strengthen data-based policing and improve crime analysis, trend monitoring and case reviews.

The DGP expressed confidence that with proper implementation and updation of existing systems, Telangana Police could once again emerge as a national leader in technology-driven policing.

Among those who participated in the video conference were DGP (Law and Order) Mahesh Bhagwat, DG Technical Services V. V. Srinivasa Rao, DG Organisation Swati Lakra and senior police officers from across the State.
