Nepal Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal will travel to China in mid-June on an official visit, his office said on Monday (June 8, 2026). This will be Mr. Khanal’s first official visit to China after assuming the office. Mr. Khanal will embark on a two-day official visit to China from June 15-16, confirmed the secretariat of the foreign minister. However, the Foreign Ministry is yet to officially announce the dates or other details.

During the visit, Mr. Khanal is expected to meet the Chief of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Liu Haixing, besides holding bilateral meetings with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. He is also expected to hold an interaction with the Nepalese diaspora in China during the visit. He is scheduled to return to Kathmandu on June 16.

Mr. Khanal just concluded his three-day official visit to India, from June 5 to 7, which he described as “fruitful”, asserting that concrete steps were taken towards enhancing bilateral ties.
