The Velachery police have detained two migrant labourers from Bihar for the sexual assault of a 61-year-old woman with a mental disability on Thursday.
A senior official of the city police said an elderly woman, who is a resident of Madipakkam, was waiting at the Velachery bus terminus at around 2.30 a.m. on Thursday when the suspects approached her. The two workers who were employed at the eateries in Velachery, in the guise of offering the woman a ride home, took her to a secluded location and sexually assaulted her before abandoning her and escaping.
The residents, finding the woman unconscious, alerted the police control room, based on which a police team from Velachery police station admitted her in the Government Maternity Hospital in Egmore because of her health condition.
The police by verifying the footage from CCTV cameras identified the two suspects.
