The Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram is expected to be inaugurated in the first week of July, and the district administration has stepped up work on connectivity and supporting infrastructure ahead of the opening. The airport is expected to improve air connectivity and drive economic activity in north Andhra Pradesh.
Visakhapatnam Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore on Wednesday (May 28, 2026) directed officials of various departments to speed up works on road connectivity to the airport and complete them by June 30.
Reviewing the progress of airport connectivity roads and VMRDA land pooling works at a meeting at the Collectorate, Mr. Kishore said all departments should work in coordination and complete the works quickly. He reviewed the status of seven key roads linking Visakhapatnam city with the airport and asked officials to improve other connecting roads as well.
The Collector told officials to complete road construction, the installation of signboards and streetlights, the development of a bus terminal and charging points without delay. He also suggested holding talks with representatives of Rapido, Uber and Ola to arrange transport services to the airport.
He said review meetings would be held every week, and asked officials to bring unresolved issues to his notice or coordinate with higher authorities to resolve them.
Mr. Kishore also directed VMRDA officials to speed up land pooling and layout development works and ensure basic infrastructure in the layouts.
VMRDA Commissioner Tej Bharat, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg and officials of the R&B, RTC and APEPDCL took part in the meeting.
