Two women construction workers buried alive as soil caves in near Madurai

Posted on May 22, 2026 By admin

In a tragic case, two women workers were buried alive when soil caved in resulting in instant death on Friday.

Police said that Thangaraja of Viraganoor was constructing a kalyana mandapam in Silaiman near here. Two days ago, the masons had filled cement concrete on a 16-feet depth pillar foundation.

On Friday, when two women workers identified as Tamilarasi (60) and Dhanalakshmi (46) of Silaiman were engaged in clearing the cement in and around the concrete pillar, the soil suddenly caved in and buried the pit in which the two women were fatally caught.

On information, Silaiman police team arrived and pressed bulldozers and JCB to pull out the debris. After about an hour, they removed the two bodies and sent them to Government Rajaji Hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered. Further investigation is on.
