The Tambaram City Cyber Crime Wing has arrested a man in Telangana for allegedly creating fake social media accounts using a woman’s private photographs and subjecting her to online harassment.
The police said a woman from West Tambaram lodged a complaint stating that her private photographs had been misused to create fake Instagram and Telegram accounts, which led to her receiving unwanted phone calls and being harassed. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Acting on the instructions of Tambaram City Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar, a special team, led by Sub-Inspector Ramachandran, was formed. During the investigation, the police analysed digital evidence obtained from Instagram and Telegram and identified the accused as Sivaprakash, a native of Thogamalai in Karur district and a friend of the complainant.
Further inquiries revealed that the accused lived in Shamshabad in Telangana. The team travelled there and secured him. The police said interrogation revealed that the accused allegedly had a one-sided love for the complainant and created the fake accounts in an attempt to gain her sympathy and emotionally manipulate her.
The accused was later produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. The police seized the mobile phone allegedly used in the offence.
