AC mechanic injured in cylinder explosion at Kodambakkam

A 26-year-old man was seriously injured after a cylinder exploded in an air-conditioner mechanic shop in Kodambakkam on Wednesday (May 20, 2026). 

City police said L. Dilipan, a resident of Dass Puram in Kodambakkam, worked as an AC mechanic at a private AC mechanic shop located on Puliyur Main Road in Kodambakkam.

While transferring nitrogen gas for AC servicing from a 20-litre cylinder into a 10-litre cylinder, the smaller cylinder exploded under pressure. The explosion severed both of the technician’s wrists and caused multiple injuries. Coworkers rushed him to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The K.K. Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
