Doctors of the Government Chengalpattu Medical College Hospital have removed a small metal screw from the right lung of a one-year-old baby girl after a two-hour-long procedure. According to hospital dean Priya Pasupathy, the child from Kamarajar Nagar came in with breathing difficulties and was in distress. A team of doctors led by Sarath Balaji, associate professor of paediatrics, conducted a minimally invasive procedure using a flexible bronchoscope and forceps and removed it. The child has since recovered. Chengalpattu Collector S. Malathi Helen congratulated the doctors and said the hospital saw around 5,000 outpatients daily and had 1,700 beds for in-patients.
