Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament M. Sribharat on Tuesday said that the compassion and service-mindedness of Florence Nightingale, the Lady with the Lamp, remains a timeless inspiration for those in the nursing profession.
He encouraged nurses to pursue international opportunities created by global technological shifts. He further emphasised that while Artificial Intelligence continues to transform various sectors, it cannot replace the essential compassion and human touch provided by nursing professionals, ensuring their role remains indispensable regardless of future advancements in medical technology.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 206th birth anniversary celebrations of Florence Nightingale, organised by the Andhra Pradesh Government Nurses Association at the Andhra Medical College Centenary Hall, Mr. Sribharat urged the nursing community to serve with greater dedication and commitment.
He noted that nurses share a significant responsibility with doctors in ensuring that patients from poor and middle-class backgrounds receive satisfactory treatment at government hospitals.
Patients recover faster in environments where healthcare is delivered with humanity and love, he observed, adding that the true objective of medical service is achieved when patients are treated effectively and avoid repeated hospital visits for the same ailments.
The MP remarked that if healthcare remains confined to medicines and surgeries without an emotional and humane touch, a void will always remain in the profession.
During the event, the MP felicitated several government nurses for their outstanding contributions to the profession.
Former MLA S.A. Rehman, Andhra Medical College Principal Dr. Sandhya Devi, KGH Superintendent Dr. I. Vani, and Andhra Pradesh Government Nurses Association President Ganga Bhavani were among those present.
