Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) chairperson, M. Angamuthu, on Monday inaugurated a suite of developmental projects and laid foundation stones for high-tech security enhancements at the port premises.
The projects included commissioning of a new Port Operation System and a 170 kW rooftop solar plant at the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), the latter marking another step in the port’s transition toward sustainable energy.
Mr. Angamuthu also inaugurated a public promenade and a 38 Track Kilometre (TKM) electrification project for railway tracks, aimed at improving both the aesthetic appeal of the port and its internal logistical efficiency.
Other infrastructure projects completed include the upgradation of the MCHV railway track, rectification of sharp curves on existing tracks, and repairs along the SL Canal Jetty. A new display corridor in the administrative office building and a customs boundary wall were also unveiled to the public.
Focusing on the port’s safety apparatus, foundation stones were laid for the installation of Under Vehicle Scanning Systems (UVSS) across all entry points. Furthermore, radiological detection equipment will be deployed at cargo gates to monitor incoming shipments for hazardous materials.
The chairperson also set in motion road restoration works, including the regrading of the bituminous road surface from Convent Junction Arch to H-7 Junction and internal road improvements within the OHC area
