Javelin thrower Sachin Yadav will be among the athletes in focus when the Indian Athletics Series-3 is held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.

Sachin came into the limelight after finishing a creditable fourth with a distance of 86.27m in the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo last year. The 26-year-old from Uttar Pradesh had an impressive 2025 season, winning the silver medal at the Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea with a best throw of 85.16m.

Stiff competition is on the cards in the men’s javelin event, with Asian Games silver medallist Kishore Kumar Jena, Rohit Yadav and Shivam Lohakare also looking forward to testing themselves ahead of the 29th senior Nationals in Ranchi in May.

Meanwhile, Hima Das, 26, is set to feature in the women’s 200m and 400m events. The sprinter from Assam had been suspended for a whereabouts failure by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) in 2024.

In the men’s 100m event, Animesh Kujur, who holds the national record in the 100m and 200m, will be keen to continue on his upward curve. In 2025, the 22-year-old from Chhattisgarh became the first-ever Indian male sprinter to qualify for the World Championships.

He will be challenged by Gurindervir Singh, who set a new 60m national record at the National Indoor Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar last month. The other top sprinters in the fray are Tamil Arasu, Pranav Pramod Gurav and Harsh Santosh Raut.
