The Muslim Educational Society (MES) is planning to focus more on the healthcare sector in the State. Its functionaries told the media here on Thursday (May 7, 2026) that efforts were on to set up new hospitals in Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, and Alappuzha.
The MES already has a medical college at Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district. Hameed Fazal Gafoor, Kozhikode district secretary, MES, said it was a challenging period for the healthcare sector in the State. The cost of treatment was rising, and many private hospitals were losing their local face due to their acquisition by foreign equity firms. The MES, which runs a chain of educational institutions across the State, was planning to provide affordable healthcare by investing in the sector. There are plans to start both big and small hospitals for offering various types of treatment.
Dr. Gafoor, who is also part of MES Medical College, said the new government in Kerala would have to seriously focus on the crisis facing the healthcare sector. If problems plaguing projects such as the Karunya Arogya Suraksha Padhathi and Medisep were not solved, private hospitals might withdraw from them, he added.
