Iran’s ‘lost the key’ post offers comic relief amid global tension

Resorting to humour amid global tensions, Iran made fun of U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated threats to open the Strait of Hormuz with an online cryptic post, saying “we’ve lost the key” to the crucial passage.

Defying Mr. Trump’s ultimatum that Iran must reopen the Strait by Tuesday (April 7, 2026) evening or face attacks on its key infrastructures, Iran’s embassy in Zimbabwe sarcastically asked him if he could change the deadline, saying: “8 P.M. is not that good. Could you change it to between 1 and 2 P.M., or if possible, 1 and 2 A.M.? Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I.E.Z.”

Iran’s sarcastic remarks come after the U.S. president warned Tehran of devastating attacks on its major infrastructures, including power installations and bridges, if the Strait, an important energy chokepoint, is not opened before the ultimatum.

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it,” the U.S. President wrote on his Truth Social platform. “Open the Fu***** Strait, you crazy bas*****”, he wrote.

Crisis at a glance

The West Asia crisis erupted on February 28, when the U.S. and Israel started a coordinated attack on Iranian military infrastructure and leadership. Iran responded with counterattacks targeting Israel and U.S. Military bases and allied installations across several West Asian countries.

The latest phase of the intensified conflict was triggered after the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by an Israel-U.S. strike.

The war, which entered its 38th day on Monday, has disrupted oil and natural gas supplies globally, triggering fertiliser shortages and disrupting air travel.

Meanwhile, the chief of the U.N. nuclear watchdog on Monday (April 5, 2026) warned attacks near Iran’s Bushehr atomic power plant “pose a very real danger to nuclear safety and must stop”.

The facility, located in the south of the country and equipped with a 1,000-megawatt reactor, has been targeted four times since the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran began. The latest strike was reported by Iranian state media on Saturday.
